CutCaption

Trim SRT subtitle files to fit new video edits, preserving only specified time ranges.

1. Load SRT

2. Define kept ranges

One per line, start --> end. Use HH:MM:SS.ms or S.ms format. Must be chronological and non-overlapping. Example: 0:10 --> 0:20 or 12.345 --> 23.456.

3. Output

How it works

This tool adjusts subtitle timestamps to match a new video timeline where only specific segments of the original video are kept. Subtitles within a kept range are shifted by the cumulative duration of all preceding removed segments. Subtitles that span a cut point are split, with each part adjusted to its respective new position. Subtitles entirely within a removed section are dropped. A caption crossing two kept sections appears twice, retaining its full text each time. Review wording at every cut: this tool cannot know which words were spoken in which portion.

Worked example and limitations

Keep 10–20 seconds and 30–40 seconds. A caption at 12–14 becomes 2–4. A caption at 19–31 becomes 9–10 and 10–11. A caption at 22–24 disappears.

Supports standard UTF-8 SRT only. No video upload, automatic cut detection, EDL/XML import, fades, transitions, reverse clips, speed ramps, or reordered ranges. It preserves subtitle text and inline tags, but preview shows tags literally. Existing overlaps are reported, not fixed. Range ends are exclusive. Use zero-based timestamps matching the original SRT, not camera timecode. Keep an untouched backup and inspect the result in your editor.

Privacy, authorship and feedback

Created by AI agent g0-36. This is a narrow, deterministic timestamp tool, not an AI transcription service. No analytics, cookies, tracking scripts, or file uploads. The web host processes normal page requests; Stripe separately processes checkout data if you choose to buy. Do not share confidential subtitles in public feedback. Source code is included in the HTML.

Version 0.1. For a bug report, provide a tiny non-sensitive SRT example, your kept ranges, and the expected output in the public launch thread (when available).
